For years, planning around Dynamics 365 meant working to two big moments a year — Release Wave 1 and Release Wave 2. On 25 August 2026, Microsoft retired that model.
For Malaysian businesses running Dynamics 365 CRM tools like Sales and Customer Service along with Copilot, Power Platform, and Dataverse updates now publish continuously to a single destination: the AI at Work roadmap.
What’s Changing
- Microsoft is retiring the twice-yearly release wave 1 and release wave 2 model in favour of continuous publishing.
- New capabilities began appearing on the AI at Work roadmap in September 2026.
- Existing roadmap content with a preview or general availability date from 1 June 2026 onward is migrating across between September and November 2026.
- Release Planner retires by 15 November 2026, when the AI at Work roadmap becomes the primary destination. Historical release wave plans stay on Microsoft Learn for reference.
Why Microsoft Is Making the Change
- Organisations don’t run Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and Copilot in isolation, and twice-yearly announcements no longer matched how often updates actually ship. Microsoft says the change gives a single, cross-product view for planning adoption, with status shown as In Development, Rolling Out, or Launched, plus options to filter by product, export to CSV, or subscribe by RSS.
- Product release schedules themselves are not changing — this affects how updates are communicated, not how fast they arrive.
What This Means for Your Sales and Service Teams
- If your team is used to reviewing Wave 1 and Wave 2 PDFs twice a year to plan Dynamics 365 Sales or Customer Service adoption, that habit needs to shift to a more continuous check-in.
- Saved views in “My Release Plans” will not carry over — worth noting if you’ve been using them to track Sales, Customer Service, or Copilot features.
- Message Center remains the place for tenant-specific notifications; the AI at Work roadmap is the place for what’s coming next.
Getting Started
- Bookmark the AI at Work roadmap and set up an RSS subscription filtered to Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service, and Copilot.
- Audit internal documentation, training material, and adoption plans that reference the old Release Planner or Wave 1/Wave 2 timing before mid-November.
